Wet Felted Bags
Sanborn Mills Farm October 2022 In this workshop, students will learn the process of wet felting. Wet felting is a magical way to turn loose wool fibers into fabric without spinning, knitting or weaving. It is method employed in everything from making hats, slippers and warm boots to the felt homes of Central Asia. This ancient technique differs from “needle felting” and some other felting techniques in that wet felting relies only on the nature of the fibers, a little soap & water, and some elbow grease to make a beautiful rugged fabric. |
Students will make bags using a resist method of felting that is applicable to all kinds of projects. Prin will discuss other felting methods and traditions of the craft while students work on projects. For more info and to register visit:

Saturday afternoon and Friday all day hand's on workshop where we will explore natural dyes through immersion dyeing on wool yarn. Sloyd Skills Gathering III
June 25-27 2021 Stannard, VT This event filled up so fast! Months in advance. In 2022 look for registration in Februray. A weekend long skills and craft gathering. This year I taught Cedar Bark Hats and jewelry making from Birch bark, Blask Ash and Willow. 2018 Wet felting is an ancient craft with a rich web of stories from around the world. While we're making our slippers we'll discuss felt-making from scarves to yurts. We'll each leave with a pair of the warmest slippers around, along with skills and inspiration to keep felting until Spring. |

Many cultures use this interesting and versatile weaving pattern for everything from baskets to snowshoes. It's a great brain stretch to learn and will leave you wanting to try this pattern on your next basket too. |

Spring Field Days at the old Stone House were great fun as always. I demonstrated flax and wool processing. It's always fun to get a chance to work with their beautiful reproduction flax processing tools. And to hear what kids have to say about where their clothes come from.
